China was estimated to have about 169 million people with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) in 2021, by far the highest number of any country. Impaired glucose tolerance means that blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to warrant a diabetes diagnosis. It is a risk factor for progression to type two diabetes.
